Patriotism Rocks

How many can you find?!

......................................................................................

If you haven't heard about this yet.. well you JUST may be living under a rock! In cities and towns across the nation people are painting rocks and hiding them for others to find.

Once you find a rock you either take it and re-hide it somewhere else or you replace it with a rock that you have painted yourself. A quick search on google or social media will help you find groups in your local area.

BUT why not incorporate it into your 4th of July celebrations in the mean time? Your kids will love a DIY project to help paint the rocks before guests arrive.

You may also have guests paint rocks at the party to take home along with the ones they find during the game to hide in their local neighborhoods!

Objective: Find the rocks!

Items Needed: Paint, brushes, water, a plastic table cloth for easy clean up.

Game Play:  Hide your pre-painted rocks around the party area. After guests have arrived let them know that there are painted rocks all about the party. Their goal is to collect as many as they can! The player with the most rocks wins!

4th of July part game.. Together We Stand!

Objective: Be the first to stand the bottle upright!

Items Needed: Three (3) bottles (12 oz soda bottles or empty water bottles will work), rice, red and blue food coloring, 3 ziplock bags, 20 inch dowels, Three (3) thick strings or yarn in 27 inch lengths, paint to decorate the dowels (red white and blue to help continue the theme!), Three (3) rings (metal shower curtain rings would work.. or small plastic bracelets). Additional string/yarn to create playing areas.

Setup

Rice Bottles: Put a 3/4 cup of rice into 2 of the ziplock bags with 10-12 drops of red food coloring in one and 10-12 drops of blue in the other. Seal ziplock bag and move the rice around until the color has evenly spread. Additional drops may be added to reach the color you desire. Cut a corner of the ziplock bag and use as a funnel to pour each bag into its own bottle. Use the additional ziplock bag to funnel another 3/4 cup of plain white rice into the remaining bottle.

Poles: Decorate each pole making each unique. Once done decorating take one string and tie one end to the dowel and the other to a ring. Do this with all three dowels.

Playing area: Create three circles measuring two feet around with the left over string/yarn and place a bottle into each.

Game Play: Have three players stand at their own circle. On the mark of go they must use the fishing pole to get their bottle to stand up straight.
